I love words and the English language.
I can’t say I love to write–it’s much too hard work, but I rely on the written word to do most of my communicating. I’m shy and tongue-tied, so writing is the only way I have to really express myself. But I don’t think of myself as a writer.
To me, a writer is someone like John Updike, Joseph Heller, James Joyce or Jane Austen. I’m nowhere near that class–a scribbler, maybe. And my first name doesn’t begin with “J”!
Anyway, this blog is about words and writing, and my life.
I live in Upland, California. I’ve lived in this area, the Pomona Valley, for many, many years. Graduated from Pomona High School. Remember when there were still lemon groves in Upland. All that is in the past. Today is much more interesting. Right now, God has allowed me to care for my wife, Elizabeth, who is schizophrenic.
I’ve been working as an editor and proofreader for a publishing company in Redlands, but the last few months my hours have gone down, down, down. That’s okay, cause my wife has needed more care and I have dozens of projects to keep me busy. If you’d like to take a look at my resume, click here.
Like my volunteer work at Reading for the Blind & Dyslexic, where I’m a recording artist. I read aloud textbooks for students with learning disabilities.
I’m also active in Toastmasters. My group is the “Route 66” Club. I’m vice president of public relations. If you’d like to read my last speech, it’s posted on my blog. I won Best Speech at the Feb. 6 meeting.
