Quotes for the Unemployed

“There is no fun in doing nothing when you have nothing to do.
Idleness, like kisses, to be sweet must be stolen.”

— Jerome K. Jerome

jeromeJerome was a humorist, popular in Edwardian England. But he had a very sad life, often poor and hopelessly broke. He lived too long, experiencing again and again the painful loss of the people he loved.  Still, through it all, he kept his sense of humor, which is why I admire him so much.

Another of my favorite Jerome quotes is…

“It is in our faults and failings, not in our virtues, that we touch one another and find sympathy.”

from Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow
